UMS ASSISTS INDONESIAN LANGUAGE TEACHERS IN INNOVATING

The Community Service Team for the Indonesian Language and Literature Education Study Program, FKIP Muhammadiyah University, Surakarta, provided assistance to Indonesian language teachers at SMP, SMA, and SMK Muhammadiyah Kartasura. The theme of this activity is “Learning Reflection in Welcoming the Independent Curriculum”.

This activity is carried out for 3 months, June-August 2022. Mentoring is carried out online and offline. The workshop was held offline on July 23, 2022 at the Muhammadiyah Dakwah Building, Kartasura Branch. The workshop was attended by Indonesian teachers from Muhammadiyah 1 Kartasura Middle School, Muhammadiyah 2 Kartasura Middle School, Al Kautsar Kartasura Muhammadiyah Middle School, and Kartasura Muhammadiyah Vocational School.

Community Service chaired by Dr. Play Sufanti M. Hum. aims to improve the ability of Indonesian language subject teachers to reflect on learning. This ability is important for teachers to be able to identify problems encountered in learning, find factors that cause problems, and determine solutions to problems encountered. If the teacher has carried out this reflection, it is expected to be able to innovate learning in accordance with the demands of change as desired by the Independent Curriculum.

Chairman of the PCM Kartasura Educational Education Council, Dr. Kuswaji Dwi Priyono, M.Sc. who attended this workshop in his remarks stated that this activity was relevant to the task of the Kartasura PCM Dikdamen Council, namely improving the quality of teachers in Muhammadiyah schools. This Majlis scheduled unannounced inspection activities to find out the real condition of human resources in schools and further guidance was carried out.

Head of PCA Kartasura Mrs. Dra. Point Asmawati, M. Si. who was also present at this workshop in his speech gave motivation to teachers to be active in Muhammadiyah/Aisyiyah organizations. This activity, in addition to increasing the ability of teachers to innovate in learning, can also strengthen the relationship between teachers at AUM Muhammadiyah and Muhammadiyah/Aisyiyah organizations. He hopes that teachers at Muhammadiyah can become reliable Muhammadiyah/Aisyiyah cadres.

In this workshop, teachers were invited to reflect on learning by filling out Worksheets accompanied by the UMS team. Worksheets lead teachers to write down problems that have occurred in learning with evidence, identify factors that cause problems, and plan solutions that can overcome problems. Based on the results of this reflection, teachers are motivated to write scientific works, whether in the form of popular scientific works, scientific articles, research, or other works.

In order to maximize the results of this workshop, each teacher is paired with a student of the Indonesian Language and Literature Education study program. Collaboration between teachers and students is expected to build a solid scientific network. Teachers are motivated to innovate, because they meet millennials who are full of innovation. Students get stories of experiences in learning that are not found on campus. In addition, this meeting is expected to motivate students to carry out activities to school.

This workshop activity will be continued with assistance to realize the written work that has been planned. It is hoped that every teacher from this community service participant can publish his written work in the appropriate media.
